Islamic Geometric Design as a Contemplative Practice

This talk will introduce us to the practice of Islamic Geometric design. Creating an artwork with compass and ruler is a labour of love, discipline, patience and skill. The underlying nature of a pattern is revealed through composition, colour, weave and texture. The process of transformation experienced in creating a work of art reminds us of the potential for a process of spiritual transformation. “When mind, heart and hand act creatively as one, then time and space give way to eternal presence and traces of ever-present soul reside in the work.” This is an introductory talk, not a practical workshop

Margi is an artist, geometer and poet with a lifelong interest in the world’s wisdom traditions and the healing power of art, creativity and spirituality. Her approach to drawing and painting Islamic geometric patterns meshes seamlessly with her quest for sacred knowledge and spiritual wisdom.
